TagesWoche is a new Swiss newspaper aiming to bring together print and online content in the interests of transparency, media freedom and a Basel community still shocked by the sale of its city’s paper to unwanted investors. Sourcefabric built their new converged newsroom.
Sourcefabric and Transitions Online www.tol.org are helping to develop three regional news sites in Georgia: Livepress.ge, tspress.ge and ick.ge. Today's blogpost focus is on one of these three news sites - Livepress.ge.

William Hernán Gómez González of Columbia has won the 2011 Newscoop Theme Contest with his design Alegría. Despite tough competition from around the globe William's entry came out on top. The jury were looking for designs that explored the potentials of headlines, pictures, videos, audio, widgets, banners, reader interaction and more - all within the context of a modern news site.
Sourcefabric is teaming up with Mozilla, the non-profit organisation that promotes openness, innovation and participation on the web, to reinvent audio and the news. Two festivals will focus on improving audio workflow and web tools for journalists: Mediafabric in October and the Mozilla Festival in November.
Many news sites employ a user-subscription model in some way - whether it’s paywalls, or simply additional content for logged in users. Each site needs to strategise its own approach to content, readership and profit. One thing remains certain however. Design is at the heart of this process.
Sourcefabric have received a Knight-Batten Award for Innovations in Journalism for their work on the new West Africa Democracy Radio platform. The prize rewards news and information ideas that significantly enhance opportunities for digital engagement. Other winners this year include Storify, NPR, Guardian Data and Bloomberg Government.
