Newscoop 4.3: Streamlining the installation process
Earlier this week we announced the release of Newscoop 4.3, our open source CMS for newsrooms.
Newscoop 4.3 is the easiest, most open and most extensible Newscoop yet. For developers, it’s now easier than ever to enhance the system by contributing code, adding plugins and writing applications. For newsrooms, new plugins and a new RESTful API allows users to add more value to their journalism.
The most visible change in Newscoop 4.3 is the new installer design. We have streamlined the installation process to make it easier for users to get started.
Newscoop 4.3 pre-flight check of system requirements.
We’ve also standardised the code, built on the Silex - PHP micro-framework, to make future improvements and additions easier.
As a result, users can now install Newscoop without any demo data which makes the installation process much easier and faster. Looking forward, we will implement a wizard for themes and demo data in Newscoop 4.4 later this year.
The next very important change in installer is that we completely removed the option to choose templates and install the demo database. Newscoop installs without any demonstration data and templates (clean install).
The installer creates only a basic publication, which we label on the page when the system asks for more information about creating a publication. In the future, we will add the option to select sample templates or demo database directly in the admin panel.
