Sourcefabric's first Latin American conference begins in Guatemala.
Friday 15th July will see journalists, editors, bloggers, developers and designers meet up in Guatemala City, Guatemala for Sourcefabric's first Latin American conference. Software de código abierto para medios de vanguardia (open source software for cutting edge media) will feature a keynote from Sourcefabric co-founder Douglas Arellanes, plus two workshops.
Taking place at Aula Magna Centro TICS de Intecap (one of the country's leading ICT institutions), the events will cover:
- Why the media must understand technology and vice versa
- Experience in designing applications for journalism
- Responses to the rapid changes in the media industry
- Why "open and free" is the way forward for the future of news
The hands-on workshops will look at practical uses of Sourcefabric's software for journalists and broadcasters. The first will investigate Airtime, the open source radio software, the second Newscoop, the open source CMS for news organisations.
The conference is free to attend and events will be held in a mixture of English and Spanish. You can find more or let us know that you're coming along by emailing me, Claudia Cruz.
