Katerina Michailidis is Sourcefabric's Projects Coordinator. One of her tasks is to keep track of the multitude of new sites appearing all over the web that are powered by Newscoop, Sourcefabric's CMS made by journalists, for journalists. Here she highlights three of the latest organisations to build their business on the Newscoop platform.

ElPeriódico Deportivo

ElPeriódico Deportivo

ElPeriódico Deportivo

Hot-off-the-press site from Guatemala's leading daily. ElPeriódico Deportivo is a sports weekly with a print and an online edition. Using a self-built template, the site leads with a huge pictorial gallery featuring the latest sporting news, large-scale sidebar adverts and an easy-to-read double column news feed.

An opinion column allows for comments and reader activity (they've over 13,000 fans on Facebook so they're doing something right!), while various sports are organised by type. Finally, a great lightbox allows them to showcase amazing photography, allowing them to capture events like El Clásico from every angle!

Media Development Loan Fund

Media Development Loan Fund

Media Development Loan Fund

The Media Development Loan Fund is a mission-driven investment fund for independent news outlets in countries with a history of media oppression. In 2001, MDLF launched the Campware initiative, from which Sourcefabric and eventually Newscoop was born.

We're proud to see mdlf.org is now powered by Newscoop. Designed by award-winning Liquid Light (http://www.liquidlight.co.uk/), the site shows nicely how Newscoop can handle sites with more static content than news content (much like our own sourcefabric.org!).

West Africa Democracy Radio

West Africa Democracy Radio

West Africa Democracy Radio

West Africa Democracy Radio's new bilingual site is an all-singing, all-dancing example of Newscoop's possibilities as a news platform. Incorporating a Soundcloud plug-in that allows journalists to upload and attach easily-shared audio, the site also features geolocation prominently, with every article containing a map.

Commenting is handled by Disqus, there's strong social network presence in the form of Facebook and Twitter, plus the schedule of their radio programmes is fed to the front page by Airtime, Newscoop's sister radio software! Articles are organised by country, topic and programme. Polls, a calendar archive, language switcher, RSS podcasts... the list of functionality goes on!
