Top 5 Takeaways from the Minsk Radio Summit
They’re all part of the same radio network, yet most of the radio broadcasters involved in our microwav.fm project had never met in person.
Until last November, that is. We brought together over 50 participants in the project for our very first Sourcefabric Radio Summit. Held in Minsk, the event was aimed at giving them a space to discuss their own work and learn from each other.
We asked some of the participants what they would be taking away from the gathering.
Temur Gurguliya
A Radio
"I was happy to attend and to meet the others from Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia running similar radios as ours. It was very important to get an overview of the whole project and discuss our future plans."
Halima Fatullayeva
Radio Halimateaching
“The Radio Summit has been an eye opener for me not just as radio manager but also as an individual who is trying to help empower leadership regarding gender issues, human rights, and transparency as well as LGBT issues in my daily life."
Ulker Eldarqizi
Radio Baijan
"The Minsk Radio Summit was very profitable for me. There were a variety of helpful training sessions about technical aspects of radio, as well as information about fundraising, advertising, and collaboration."
Sona Budaghyan
DiliRadio
"The Summit opened new insights for me into radio journalism and has become the reason to take a completely new approach in working with Dilijan teenagers."
Arsen Kharatyan
Aliq Radio
"As an Armenian language radio station in Georgia, it was of particular importance for us to meet with colleagues from Azerbaijan and Abkhazia, as it is otherwise impossible because of conflicts in the region. We also got to learn new approaches on how to use social media tools to become more effective in our work."
