Testing, testing, 1,2,3: Polish National Day and Live Blog 3.0
In search for user feedback in the last phase of releasing Live Blog 3.0 we wanted a live test. There is no better way to improve software than asking for feedback from users and there are no better test users for Live Blog than the journalists and editors working on live events.
So we tested Live Blog 3.0 with PAP, the Polish News Agency, covering the celebrations of this year’s Polish National Day.
Get feedback on the go, make improvements live
News agencies, with their 24/7 “wire” coverage with no deadlines, are often reporting from live events, covering a wide range of subjects, from sport events to breaking news.
The Polish National Day is a very important event, with hundreds of commemorations and events taking place all over Poland. During 24 hours, PAP covered the commemoration of the country’s independence which was regained on 11th November 1918 after 123 years of occupation and oppression.
Our Live Blog team set up a customised template for their live blog, translated the embed and made small tweaks to the date/time format, to match Polish standards. The result is an integrated live blog on PAP’s website, with a new responsive embed code instead of classic iframe and a new format for embedded links to web articles.
“For PAP this was a challenging experience,” says Ryszard Niżewski, Marketing & Development manager, “which helped us to identify our needs and abilities to provide a new type of live media coverage.”
Improving Live Blog, live
During the coverage, our developers worked shoulder to shoulder with PAP’s journalists and editors. The reported issues have been fixed on the go and the feedback was very positive. Basically, we improved Live Blog, live.
The live blogging format has brought new opportunities for news agencies and we believe Live Blog, being developed as open-source, significantly lowers the barriers to entry for real-time coverage and live blogging. The first step is coming soon, as we are about to release Live Blog 3.0 on December 8th, and we do not intend to stop there.
