Conferences, events and more conferences! If you’re lost in the maze of 2015 events, never fear, we’ve put together a handy guide to some of the top events we will be attending this year. The majority of these events focus on innovation in media, news, technology and publishing. Each event is a great opportunity to connect with other thought leaders in the industry and engage in brainstorming and learning. If you are planning to attend any of these events, feel free to drop us a line, we would love to see you there!

1. Lift Conference 2015

February 4-6, 2015 Geneva, Switzerland

The Lift Conference is a key event about innovation and digital technologies. The event slogan is “Making Innovation Happen”, what’s not to love about that? Sourcefabric co-founder, Douglas Arellanes will be hosting an interactive workshop at the conference on real-time fact checking in Mozambique. The workshop presents ways to verify citizen media reports including a look into our verification platform Citizen Desk. Tickets are still available, so give us a shout if you are planning to attend!

2. World Radio Day London

February 13, 2015 London, UK

This year's World Radio Day theme is Youth in Radio. We will be celebrating World Radio day London: Seminar and Trade Show with SOAS Radio, The Centre of African Studies, The University of London and the Communication for Development Network. Daniel James and Pete Haughie from the Sourcefabric team will be heading to this UNESCO hosted event to promote communications as a means for development through our Airtime software. Tickets are free to this event, but going fast! 

3. ONA London: Mobile

March 6, 2015 London, UK

This one-day event hosted in London focuses on mobile design, content and distribution, practical tips and inspiration for rethinking how media approaches mobile news. 

4. Leipzig Book Fair

March 12-15, 2015 Leipzig, Germany

The meeting place for authors, readers, and publishing companies, the Leipzig Book Fair is a must for those in the Industry. Whether you are interested in audio books, film, literature, or music, there are vendors from every background in attendance. Get ready for a bustling and lively atmosphere and if you get a chance, meet up with Julian Sorge, our head of Booktype, who will be attending the fair.

5. International Journalism Festival

April 15-19, 2015 Perugia, Italy

The annual Perugia International Journalism Festival is the leading journalism event in Italy. The event is an open invitation for attendees to listen and network with the best of the journalism world. The overall atmosphere places emphasises on informality and accessibility. It is designed to appeal to journalists, aspiring journalists and those interested in the role of media in society. A Sourcefabric team member will be speaking at this event. Oh and did we mention entry is free? 

6. GEN Summit

June 17-19, 2015 Barcelona, Spain

The Global Editors Network Summit is sure to be a favourite this year as media industry opinion leaders gather to discuss trends shaping the newsrooms. More than 60 nationalities attended last years GEN Summit, so if you are looking for a truly global and diverse conference, look no further. The summit is also the place where the Data Journalism Awards, the Startups for News, and the Editors Lab Final award winners are announced.

7. ONA 15

September 24-26 2015, Los Angeles, USA

Media influencers from around the world flock to the Online News Association conference each year. This year will be no exception as producers, content editors, technologists, programmers, designers and newsroom decision-makers from major media markets, independent websites and leading academic institutions gather to discuss the future of media. If you haven’t been before, we highly recommend you take some time this year to attend, you won’t regret it.   

8. World Publishing Expo

October 5-7, 2015 Hamburg, Germany

Top media and newspaper executives from over 80 countries will be attending this years World Publishing Expo to present solutions, technology and services to publish news and advertising in mobile, online and print. The Expo will feature the latest industry technologies as well as stories from over 100 speakers in various conferences and formats.

9. Frankfurt Book Fair

October 14-18, 2015 Frankfurt, Germany

Get yourself prepared for the hustle and bustle of the Frankfurt Book Fair this October. The whole industry gathers to attend conferences, learn about new products and trends and much more. We will be attending again this year and hope to see you there! Registration will be closing at the end of January, so be sure to book your spot soon.

Although the dates have yet to be announced, we will certainly be attending the following conferences as well: News Xchange, Mozilla Festival, and SRCCON.
