Meet us at #GENSummit Barcelona
On Wednesday, I’m headed to the GEN News Summit in Barcelona, where the discussion will focus on ‘challenging the status quo’ in news. Along with Sebastian Horn, our head of business development, I’ll be checking out as much of the program as humanly possible.
Here are just a few of the items on the program that we're excited about.
-
Robot Journalism Bootcamp. Can the human touch be replaced by a machine? I’ll be very interested to hear what panelist Tom Kent of the Associated Press has to say on the topic. Tom has some very interesting ideas on the topic, including one we discussed recently: Who’s responsible when an algorithm libels someone?
-
Andy Carvin’s sesson on Where the Future of News is @.
-
The Data Journalism Awards. A total of €16,000 will be awarded to the eight winning projects in different categories.
-
How to reshape your newsroom around live reporting and video sharing. The technology to enable live reporting and video is in place (we’ve got a lot of this, hint hint), but it will be interesting to hear more about the human factors in the process.
-
An unconference with master chef Ferran Adrià. Adrià is one of the greatest chefs alive, and a true innovator. This session should be interesting not only for insights into his process, but also for his ideas on how news organizations can improve their food coverage.
Much of #GENSummit program will revolve around digital trends and ways to reshape newsrooms around live reporting. Keeping with those themes, we’ll be meeting with journalists and media innovators to talk about some tools we’re working on to help newsrooms provide real time coverage of major events and engage audiences.
