TOA Radio: Electronic music goes global with Airtime

TOA radio are a worldwide network of DJs located in Mauritius, Dubai, Hungary, Lebanon, Malta and Malaysia. Their focus is on electronic dance music and have been using Airtime's open source radio automation software to share this with a global community online. By working with DJs and communities all over the world they focus on providing a wide range of platforms to reach a global audience. It is a fascinating trend we are witnessing at Airtime, whose cloud based system allows DJs and station administrators to log on from anywhere in the world. Besides a web-based player and stream, they have a dedicated iPhone and Android app, and are also available on iTunes Radio. We managed to speak with Xavier Coiffic, TOA's Syndication Manager, about their set up.

Can you tell me a little bit about the programming for TOA?

We syndicate all our shows from music labels, syndication agencies and directly from artists. All our shows are already set up, we have a team which uploads and programs the shows every week.

Who is involved with the station and how did it get started?

The station were created some months ago by a team of three friends. We now have eight people in Mauritius, Dubai, Hungary, Malta, Lebanon and Malaysia.

What community are you capturing?

It's mostly the global electronic dance music community, and it seems to be constantly growing. We find other stations that are dedicated to one genre of music but TOA likes to broadcast to more of a variety.

How did you come to find and use Airtime?

Wohooo Networks (www.wohooo.net) offers the service. We just pay for the server rental and we are good to broadcast. We have been using lots of broadcasting software in the past and Airtime is the best suitable software we can find for the our station.

Any tips for people just getting started with online radio?

Starting an online radio is really exciting and requires lot of patience to build your listeners. As the name describes itself, Airtime is an automation software which makes the whole process more simple and less time consuming.
