Community Radio Group Broadcasting with Airtime inspires local DJs in Dakota

Lee McKenna, radio host and tech-savvy musician, created his own community of local musicians and a listener base in South Dakota, USA. We were able to talk to him about what he's been able to accomplish with Airtime, and what his hopes are for the coming months. The CRGB radio station has attracted so much attention that local DJs now have guest spots using live broadcasting software to hook up to Airtime. CRGB has also uploaded thousands of original songs from hundreds of local musicians for nonprofit, commercial-free use, and even built a spiffy app for mobile accessibility.

The CRGB acronym stands for Community Radio Group Broadcasting; it's a project full of enthusiasm and artistic ownership. A commercial-free and not-for-profit radio station, CRGB is dedicated to promoting local artists and events in the region. The group is funded in part by underwritings, but still relies heavily on listener funding. You can listen to our interview with Lee where we talk to him about how to get a radio station off the ground, and how to inspire local talent to get involved.

  • Tune in on Sourcefabric Radio to hear our interview with Lee and CRGB Radio, Monday November 4-Friday November 8, from  5 PM-7 PM(CET).
