From Berlin to Kathmandu: Hack4good sparks solutions with code
This weekend, Hack4good will be running hackathons all over the world. Sourcefabric is really pleased to be hosting one of these events in our Berlin office. You can come join us by signing up here.
Hack4good began at Stanford University, where it was created to engage Computer Science students during a dance marathon for social causes. The team at Webcrowd became aware of this initiative by geekli.st only a few weeks back and Ivo Betke, who is helping to host the Berlin event, liked the idea from the beginning. He told us he "decided to organize a social hackathon last year in Berlin during Campus Party."
The geekli.st team reached out to a global network of ambassadors to make this event possible. Hackers around the world are joining forces to show concern for social problems, and are developing software ideas to solve these problems. Ivo tells us "we'll have various live streams from many locations and we hope to have some exchange between the cities too. It will be interesting to see how teams in Berlin or Costa Rica will respond to ideas from Kathmandu or New Delhi."
The results of the first hackathon were astounding. The geekli.st team is sure that the upcoming hackathons this weekend will be another success. It will be great to spark new ideas and bring people together who are eager to contribute to a good cause, and have a lot of fun in the meantime. In the future, the team is hoping to kickstart a global movement of developers that are dedicated to hacking4good.
